Frog on the Number Line

The class gives the frog orders, such as "forward 8, back 3". The frog hops along the lily pads one mark at a time, and everyone can count the hops.

Teacher tips and shortcuts
  • To give an order, tap the number, then Forward or Back. Add up to six orders, then press Go!. Forward hops go to bigger numbers, back hops to smaller ones.
  • The frog makes one hop for each mark, so "forward 0.3" on a tenths line is three small hops. Ask the class to count along.
  • Jumps are drawn over the pads with their size, and the sum is written at the top: 2 + 8 − 3 = 7.
  • If an order would take the frog past the end of the line, it falls in the water and climbs back to where that order started.
  • In Where will it land?, tap a number to mark the class's guess before pressing Hop!. In Free hopping, tap a number to move the frog there.
  • Keyboard: type numbers, → or + for forward, ← or − for back, Enter to go, Backspace to undo, F full screen, M sound, Esc this menu.
